Clean Energy Initiative: Providing affordable energy for our future.
about

For our economy, our environment, our children ... clean energy is right for Missouri.

Missouri is growing and our need for electricity is growing as well. Where will that electricity come from? It could come from fossil fuels like coal that pollute the air and threaten our health. Or it could come from clean renewable energy sources like wind and solar power that we have right here at home.

The good news is that we have the opportunity to make that choice. You can help pass Missouri's the Clean Energy Initiative by voting yes on November 4, 2008.

Who is Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy?

Missourians for Cleaner Cheaper Energy is the ballot campaign committee supporting the Clean Energy Initiative.

What is the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative?

The Clean Energy Initiative requires Missouri investor-owned electric utilities (Ameren, Empire, Aquila, and KCP&L) to get 15% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2021. The Clean Energy Initiative defines renewables as clean sources of energy like wind, solar, landfill gas, biomass, and small hydroelectric projects. Often this policy is called a Renewable Electricity Standard (RES).

We Know It Works.

Twenty-six states have passed this policy, jumpstarting the development of their renewable energy industry. In Missouri, elected officials have introduced, but have failed to pass, an RES for the last eight years. On November 4, Vote Yes to bring Clean Energy to Missouri.

Why Support the Missouri Clean Energy Initiative?

Economic Development and Job Creation

Investing in clean energy like solar, wind, and biomass will reinvigorate Missouri’s economy and create the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Energy Independence and Security

By developing America’s homegrown, clean energy, we will diversify our power supply and help shield Missourians from power outages and from volatile spikes in energy prices.

Cleaner Energy and Healthier Families

86% of Missouri’s electricity comes from coal. Air pollution from these coal plants contributes to thousands of cases of asthma and lung disease each year. The Cleaner Energy Initiative will clean our air and keep our families healthy for generations to come.
